Extension Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 5, 2026
1. What This Extension Does
The Digital Privacy Watchdog browser extension scans the web pages you visit to detect third-party tracking scripts, advertising pixels, and consent cookies. All scanning is performed locally in your browser. The extension displays the results in a popup so you can see exactly who is tracking you.
2. What Data We Collect
Data processed locally (never leaves your browser):
- HTML content scanned for tracker script patterns
- Cookie names checked against known consent cookie patterns
- Outbound network request domains monitored for known tracker domains
- Full page URLs
Data transmitted to our servers (premium members only):
- Domain names (e.g. “example.com”) of visited sites that match our flagged domain database, for visit logging
- Domain names added to your personal watchlist
- Your authentication token for subscription verification
Data we NEVER collect:
- Full URLs or page paths
- Page content, text, images, or media
- Form inputs, passwords, or personal information
- Browsing history beyond the current active tab
- Data from non-HTTP pages (chrome://, file://, about:, etc.)
- Keystroke data, clipboard contents, or screenshots
3. How We Use Your Data
- Visit logging: When a premium member visits a site in our flagged database, we record the domain name and timestamp to build a personal exposure report.
- Watchlist: Domain names you add to your watchlist are stored so we can send you alerts if the site’s tracking behavior changes.
- Authentication: Your JWT token is stored locally and periodically verified against our server to confirm your subscription status.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any third parties. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not share data with analytics providers. Your visit logs are private to your account.
5. Data Storage and Security
Authentication tokens and cached data are stored locally in your browser using Chrome’s storage API. Server-side data is stored in encrypted databases. All data transmission uses HTTPS.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time through your Digital Privacy Watchdog dashboard. Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data. To request deletion of server-side data, email support@digitalprivacywatchdog.com.
7. Children's Privacy
This extension is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted at this URL with an updated date. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance.
